Hioki Singapore is pleased to announce the upgrade and release of 4 new clamp meters for high voltage measurement. These 4 improved clamp meters are :

Development Background

With the global movement to realize a carbon-free society, solar power generation systems are drawing attention. In addition, development in solar power generation and EV batteries have been accelerating further due to recent rising demand for electric power.

However, higher voltages in these equipment increase the risk to engineers during maintenance. The international safety standards IEC61010 classifies safety-level standards as CAT II to IV depending on the location of use. By using measuring instruments that meet the respective measurement categories, serious accidents such as electric shock and damage are prevented.

Recently, IEC re-evaluated the safety standards associated with higher voltages. In this re-evaluation, measurements of solar power generation facilities were reclassified into CAT III from their previous CAT II. This means that measuring instruments have been globally recognized as needing much more stringent safety features than before

Features

1. World’s first CAT III 2,000 V measurement probe

There is a global trend for solar systems to handle larger and larger voltages. While 1500 V systems are increasingly popular in facilities today, increasing efficiency and scale in the future will lead to even higher voltages. This means that measuring instruments will eventually need to handle voltages of much more than the current 1500 V.

In anticipation of such a near future, the P2000 was created as a high-voltage probe that can measure 2,000 V DC in CAT Ⅲ to prevent electric shock to workers and burnout of equipment.

In order for the P2000 to help withstand high voltages, it actually reduces the voltage at a set ratio, then sends it to the measuring instrument. However this would also decrease the values on the measuring instrument, if not for a special function on the instrument. The four improved Clamp Meters compatible with P2000  have the “DC HIGH V PROBE mode” that compensates for this output ratio difference to save the engineer the trouble of calculating. The digital multimeter DT4261 released in August 2021 also has the same function.

2. Wireless communication capability for even greater convenience

When the Wireless Adapter Z3210 is installed, Bluetooth® wireless communication is enabled. It transfers measurements to your smartphone or tablet and allows you to quickly create reports with field photos and drawings.

Excel® Direct Input Function (*1)

Boost work efficiency in the field by letting you directly transfer measurement data to (i.e., enter measured values directly into) templates created as Excel®.

4. Convenient for repeated measurement and recording tasks!

Automatic hold function

In addition to being convenient when the display cannot be seen during measurement, when the measurement value is stabilized, the display value is automatically held until the next measurement, which is very convenient for repeated measurement and recording tasks.

5. Assess transient currents at motor startup

The clamp meters can simultaneously measure inrush current in RMS as well as maximum crest values at motor startup and for welding currents.The clamp meters automatically detect the duration of the inrush current (which can range from several dozen milliseconds to several hundred milliseconds) and measure the current during that interval, enabling them to yield more accurate measurements than standard clamp-on meters whose measurement interval is fixed to 100 ms.

The new and improved design features stronger jaws (the current sensor portion of the instrument) and a dramatic boost in the duration of the warranty from 10,000 to 30,000 open-close cycles to ensure the instrument will provide even more years of reliable use. The CM4375siries deliver the dual functionality of ease of clamping and resistance to damage.

7. Uncompromising Design : Innovative Jaw Design
Clamp Sensor gets between wires even with Large Jaw Diameter (CM4141-50)

Despite the ability to measure up to 2000 A AC afforded by the large sensor with φ55mm core diameter, the clamp meter’s innovative jaw design lets you get between the narrow spaces between crowded cables with absolute ease. In addition, electrical panels are sometimes so crowded that you need to push and pull to the clamp to get it around the cable. The CM4141-50 features a robust construction that delivers strength while letting you weave through complex wiring to get to the right cable, vastly improving work efficiency and speed.

Compared with clamp meters of similar class, the meter weighs only 300 g, at least 100 g lighter than competitors, letting you use the instrument over long work days with significantly less effort and physical strain.
